Honey Ginger Orange Juice

4.3 from 174 cooks

Fresh orange juice steeped briefly with honey and grated ginger, a citrus drink with a little spice that still tastes bright and clean.

A little ginger turns ordinary orange juice into something with more depth, especially once honey smooths out its sharp edge. Steeping grated ginger directly in the juice for a few minutes pulls out its flavor without needing to cook anything on the stove. Serve it well chilled with a wheel of orange floating in each glass.

  1. Combine the orange juice and grated ginger in a pitcher and stir well so the ginger is evenly distributed throughout.

  2. Let the mixture steep in the refrigerator for 15 minutes so the ginger flavor has time to spread through the juice.

  3. Strain out the ginger pieces using a fine mesh strainer, pressing on them to release any remaining liquid into the pitcher.

  4. Whisk the honey into the strained juice until it is fully dissolved and no streaks remain visible in the pitcher.

  5. Fill four glasses with ice and pour the juice evenly among them, leaving a little room at the top.

  6. Float an orange wheel in each glass just before serving so it looks fresh and floats on top of the ice.

Kitchen note

Grate the ginger on a microplane rather than chopping it; the fine texture releases more flavor and strains out of the juice much more easily.
