Ruby Red Strawberry Orange Sangria
A deep red sangria loaded with strawberries and orange, with a splash of brandy and a pineapple wedge on the rim for a party pitcher.
Red sangria wants a fruity, low-tannin wine such as garnacha, which stays smooth after a few hours with the fruit. Strawberries and orange bring the sweetness, so the sugar can stay modest. Make it in the morning for an evening gathering and add the sparkling water just before pouring.
Ingredients
Method
Tap a number to mark a step doneStir the brandy, sugar and orange juice together in a large pitcher until the sugar dissolves.
Add the chopped strawberries and orange, then pour in the red wine and stir gently.
Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours so the fruit flavors the wine.
Fill tumblers with ice and spoon plenty of the soaked fruit into each glass.
Top up the pitcher with the chilled sparkling water, stir once, and pour over the fruit.
Garnish each glass with a pineapple wedge and serve cold.
Kitchen note
For an alcohol-free pitcher, swap the wine and brandy for chilled unsweetened pomegranate and grape juice with a squeeze of lemon, keeping the same fruit.
